Museum Illusion

This is a YouTube link to a video that we took attempting to capture what we’ve come to call the ‘museum illusion’.

In summary, while driving North on Spinning Rd. towards the Air Force Museum, the tall cylindrical building is perfectly framed on the horizon by the trees on either side of the road, making it seem a certain size.  As you drive closer, the surrounding trees slowly start to drop away, and even though you are now nearer to the building itself and would expect it to become larger, because of the changing context the building actually appears to shrink in size rather drastically.

This is more apparent when viewing the illusion in person, but a gist of it can still be captured from this video.  The illusion is most noticeable from about the 45 sec mark on.
