Weekly QUEST Discussion Topics and News, August 30

The first topic is an article given to us by Col Ryer on ‘Face Recognition by Humans: Nineteen results all computer and vision researchers should know about’ also by P Sinha. This is the researcher who was doing the Prakash project bringing sight to the young blind children in India and studying how vision develops the capability to generate the coherent visual experience. The article that Col Ryer will discuss is associated with a set of empirical results that although do not constitute a coherent theory of face recognition in humans provides insights into human visual processing that has defining ‘tenet’ characteristics that are interest to our QUEST for a framework for consciousness.
The second topic that is at the close of the meeting two weeks ago there was a query by Andres about what is required for consciousness – that returned us to the Cambridge declaration – and stimulated a series of emails that we can briefly review and allow people to chime in on.
